This Catalog has the full line of seeds available from Burpee in 1915. The first page is an explanation of how the war had affected the harvest in Europe. "The situation is so unlike any with which men have had to deal in modern times that as yet none can forecast ultimate effects."
Each page provides a wealth of information about the vegetables, flowers and fruit seeds which could be ordered.
At the time of W. Atlee Burpee’s death in 1915, Burpee was the largest seed company in the world, distributing over a million catalogs a year and receiving 10,000 orders a day. In the 1920s Burpee seeds were being sold in such faraway places as Shanghai and Europe. W. Atlee’s son, David, took over the family business in 1915. Under David’s watch, W. Atlee Burpee & Company started a “war gardens” campaign in World War I which involved into a “Victory Gardens” campaign during World War II.
This is the same Burpee company that was founded in 1876 and is still in existence today.
This is one of the rarest of all of the Vintage Burpee Catalogs.
